Moby Wrap Review

For my baby shower i had a cousin that was DETERMINED to get me a wrap/baby carrier or something of the sorts.  She couldnt find what she wanted before my shower SO she gave me $40 and told me to go out and buy one that i wanted.

Without doing a ton of reviews and searches i found the Moby wrap at Target for $39.99.  So i decided on the black one since it goes with pretty much anything.  When i brought it home and took it out of its nice rolled up package i got highly confused fast!  It was my first time EVER getting a carrier { yes i had 2 kids prior - but never needed a carrier }

First time i tried using it { my son was about a month to 2 months old }  i was completely confused and ended up doing it TOTALLY wrong.  So i decided to look up online for instructions on how to use it.  the instructions was ok and i understood but since my first attempt was a fail i decided to not use it.

So months went by of just using my hips to carry my son i decided at the next consignment days i would use my moby.  We knew we was going to be there for awhile and since my son hates being put down and hardly ride in a cart or stroller for long periods i thought the best bet was to try my moby.  My son was now 7 months.

Lets just say my SON loved it.  I on the other hand hated it.  my son hated that i had him facing me at first, he was curious and wanted to explore everything. so once i turned him around where he could kick and reach for things he was perfectly fine!

Why did i dislike it?  it hurt my back & shoulders after awhile.  The weight of my son on my shoulders caused me to strain which in the end caused my back to hurt.  Its also still difficult to wrap.  Its a LONG piece of fabric that you have to wrap around your body and then you have to carefully put the baby inside a certain spot and tighten and tie a knot.  Honestly i rather a regular carrier thats all together that all you have to do is snap a few pieces together and done!

Overall its not a product i would recommend to friends or family.

Tribute to Moms

As Mother's Day is fast approaching I've had a lot of time to consider my own mom as well as consider the kind of mom I am and the kind of mom I want to be. 

I was very lucky to have a mom who bent over backwards to ensure that my sister and I had everything she had to offer.  She worked long hours to put us through private school, but still some how managed to make it to every parent/teacher conference, school play and extra curricular activity I had.  I feel very close with my mom and know that I am very blessed to have her in my life and in the life of my children. 

My mom inspires me to be a better mom, spending as much time as I can with my children and telling them every day how special they are and how loved they are. 

Mother's Day also makes me think of what an awesomely difficult job being a mom really is.  Let's face it, as moms we clean up puke, poop, are up a million times a night, yet we still have an unmeasurable amount of love for our children in spite of it all.  Each new discovery, every smile and "I love you" makes it all worth it.  Not to mention as the years pass we can often look back and laugh at many of the things that at the time made us want to pull our hair out. 

So I want to send a big THANK YOU! out to all our moms out there.  Whether you know it or not, you are loved and appreciated beyond measure.  The more time and love you invest in your children the more they will thank you as they grow into adulthood and someday venture into the journey of having their own children.  You may not hear many thanks now as you are busy telling your children things like: "No! you can not have candy, you can not stay up late, you can not spend all day in front of the t.v",  "Stop that! We do NOT hit!",  "You can't go out and play until you're home work is done... right!", and "Eat your veggies, they'll make you strong", but I assure you that they will understand once they are grown with children of their own.  I know I certainly do.  lol

Dirt Devil Ultra Vision Cyclonic Vacuum

Speaking as someone who's husband has killed his fair share vacuums, I am very pleased with our new Dirt Devil Ultra Cyclonic Vacuum.  This bagless vac picks up like a dream!

As a mother of 3 small children (5 and under), I'm used to having to vacuum lots to keep up with all of their mega messes so this thing has sucked everything from cerial or small pebbles to the grass tracked in from outside.  I've not had a single problem with this vacuum.  It does have a rather small container, but I don't mind emptying it after each use, it only takes a few seconds.

I don't have any stairs so I don't have an issue with tacking it up and down, which is probably a good thing because it is not what I would consider a light weight vacuum (also good for me because it is more sturdy and holds up well to my 3 chldren trying to climb it).  I also can't speak for how it would react to pet hair, as I have no pets.  I do highly, however highly recommend this vacuum for use of cleaning up childhood messes.  :)

Bad Boutiques

We all know that there are tons of boutiques on facebook and many of them are legitimate, good businesses.  However, there are those out there that are looking to take advantage of people or those who simply practice bad business. 

So how do you know which boutiques to avoid?  BAD Boutiques (facebook link listed below) is a new page offering facebook fans the opportunity to post and read about good and bad boutiques.  Try checking this page before doing business with any facebook boutique.  Knowing what experiences others have had may help you avoid losing your money to a "bad" boutique. 

Now this isn't to say that you should base your decission to do business with anyone off of one bad review.  We all know that there are people out there that will give an undo bad review on occassion.  However, if you do see them listed under bad boutiques it will red flag you to further research and better decide whether the risk of doing business with any given boutique is worth the risk. 

I know that I certainly appriciate being able to read the reviews of others.  I know I can' afford to waste money on a transaction that will likely fall through... and I'm sure many of our readers can't either.

how i earn..

As a SAHM im always looking out for free things or things to help me earn a little cash.  Having a tad bit of money in my paypal account is nice when i find something for the kids i would LOVE to splurge on! Come on you know you all could use a extra bit of money, especially with gas prices now a days!

So im going to share a few things that i do to help earn some cash or free things!

First up there is swagbucks. Its a search engine where you search out anything to facebook, your email, common or uncommon phrases and earn points.  You can also do surveys, polls, watch videos & shop to earn points.   You can surf around the swagbucks swag store to find that special item you would love to get and then start earning the points till you get there!  I always use my points towards amazon gift cards!  Last christmas i literally had 100$ to spend on whatever i wanted on amazon and most items i got had free shipping!  Score for christmas!   IF your more interested in this and would like to sign up just use the link i posted, got more questions before signing up as away!  

here are some survey sites i do on a daily basis.

• Inbox Dollars  - A site where you can watch videos, read emails, do surveys to earn cash.  Once you hit 30$ you can cash out and then you become a gold member and earn more points.  Refer friends and earn 10% of what they earn! 
• Beezag  -  Another site where you watch videos to earn points.  Once you hit 8,000 points you can cash out.  I just started and i already have 4,476 points.  So points add up fast!  Refer friends and earn more points! 
• Sending Earnings - is another site where you read emails and earn cash.  They are only a few cents but ads up pretty quickly! 
• Opinion Outpost -  they send you surveys.  Some you qualify for some you dont.  i currently have 11$ in there right now but im waiting to cash out.  If you want once you get to 5$ you can turn it into a amazon gift card! 
• Survey Spot - MY all time FAVE one.  Ive earned about 40+ $ already this year { YES i could do better BUT busy mom here! ;) }  Use to be where you cashed out a 20$ check and had to wait for it in the mail but now they just put it right into your paypal account!  Sweet! 
• Toluna -  you go on the site about 2-3 times a day and vote, give an opinion and do surveys to earn points.  Get to 60,000 points and cash out.
• Cant beat free - a new one that a friend introduced me to.  I still havent done much with it but you turn your points into vouchers or gift cards!

Chocolate is Truly a girls BEST friend....

Ok, as the header says, I believe chocolate is a girls best friend...  Especially around that time of the month, if you know what i mean! :P

            Some people say diamonds... me? Chocolate.  Oh yes...  Chocolate!

Anyways... This review is on a recent fave of Kelly & I's.

Ever have one of those days where the kids are screaming and not listening to a word you say, everything you touch just seems to go wrong, and your about 15 minutes behind schedule despite the fact that you got up at the but crack of dawn?  Those are the days I need a large Dr. Pepper and some mega good chocolate to go with it!  I have no idea why, but somehow that chocolate melting in your mouth seems to melt away some of that stress too.... so much so that I've gotten into a horrible habbit of not being able to make it through a check out line w/out a little of it. 

Now while we are both, what I like to call choc-o-holics, we are also health conscious... or at least we try to be.  For this reason we try very hard to stick to dark chocolate, which is much better for you than the milk chocolate.  Lindt lindor truffles is one of our favs!  It has a soft chocolate center that litterally melts in your mouth... YUM!  Plus I like that it comes individually wrapped, meaning you can have as little or as much as you want.  Which is awesome cause what you dont want you can store away and hide from the sticky fingers oc your husband or kids!

So here's to that little indulgence that gets us through those stressful moments.  :)

Fisher Price Rainforest Jumperoo

As parents one of the items that we both have stowed in our houses is the Fisher Price Rainforest Jumperoo or as we call it... bouncer.

Here are both our takes on it.

Kelly:

This past Christmas I was pleasantly surprised when my aunt gifted this luxery item to my now nearly 11-month-old daughter, Tes.  At first she was a little timid with it and not really sure what to think of it, but it didn't take her long to catch on and show us exactly what she really thought of it. 

Within a week Tes was jumping in the bouncer for up to an hour at a time!  She was able to work off some energy, while allowing me some hands free time to do things around the house without fear of her crawling away and getting into trouble.  It quickly proved to be a life saver for me. 

Now that she's a little bit older the bouncer is slightly less interesting to her.  She still enjoys the occassional bounce, but for the most part would prefer to be down on the floor exploring her world and everything in it.  My plan is to sell it once she starts walking. 

This is an item I never would have gotten her on my own unless I happened to find it dirt cheap at a yard sale or something.  I'm not one of those parents that's big on spending that kind of money on an item that may end up going to waste is my child doesn't turn out to like it.  I am very happy, however, that I was able to have this item on hand and do recomend it for anyone with a bouncy child. ;)

I was pretty lucky to get mine gifted to me.  Last May when my grandmother was still alive we went to yard sales and local thrift stores shopping for clothes and what nots to prepare for my LO's arrival.  One thrift store we stopped at actually had the jumper and it was only marked for 14.99!  THAT was a steal!!!  Only things it was missing was the top leaves that hang over the jumper, that i can actually say most people take off anyways!  Also the little sound part still worked!  For being at a thrift store that was awesome.

My grandmother bought it for me as a gift for my LO.  At the time we had no idea if i was having a boy or a girl.  So for almost a whole year i stored it away.

When my son turned 4 months old i decided to pull it out, clean it up and put him in it.  Instantly he took to it! He jumped for hours upon hours { NOT really hours at a time! just everytime i put him in it he always loved it and would cry if i took him out! } he seemed to never get bored of it.  When he learned that the seat turns he loved it even more because now there was different things to play with, move, roll, pull on.  One of his favorite parts is the bug that hangs there thats attached to a little rubber thing that he can pull up to his mouth to chew on.

He is now almost 7 months old and now that he is more mobile he doesnt enjoy being in baby jail as i put it! haha.  He rather be out roaming the living room finding all the trouble he can get into!

BUT my view/take on it for a baby that is less mobile its perfect for them, especially to get those little legs all strengthened up!

Clairol Nice 'n Easy Foam Hair Dye Review

Letica and I {Kelly} recently set forth to cover our funky colored bangs (her blue, mine pink that had faded back into it's bleached blond phase).  About a month ago we had both cashed in on a coupon for a free box of Clairol Nice n' Easy Foam Hair Dye in dark brown, but had put it aside for a day we both felt a desperate need for change.  Last night was it. 

Preporation of the dye:

Mixing wasnt that hard, just use the 1,2,3 method.  Only thing really needed on reading instructions was for how long to let it sit.  25 mins for normal hair, 30-35 for those stubborn greys.

Mixing the dye was easy peasy and no mess or fuss, though I have to admit I was anything but thrilled with the strong ammonia smell that made me feel slightly light headed and as though I needed to air out my entire living room, which is a fairly well ventilated area.  I would NOT suggest using this dye with small children in the room!

Application:

Application wasn't much different than using the usual liquid/gel dyes.  Squeeze the bottle and apply the foam, though I was slightly annoyed with how it took a few minutes to soak into your hair and the foam became a little messy toward the end of the bottle when it decided to shoot a little further than intended and make a tiny bit of a mess (luckily on the towel so my carpet survived unharmed).     

Rinse:

We both rinsed in the kitchen sink and thought we'd gotten it all and applied the conditioner and rinsed as the intructions said to do.  WRONG!  lol.  No harm done though, we just washed our hair as normal later that night and got the remaining dye. 

Results: 

I liked the color, though it was a little darker than I thought it would be.  Wet it actually looks black as opposed to dark brown... not really an issue as I hardly leave the house with wet hair anyway.  All in all I wasn't really impressed with whole foam thing.  I think I prefer the liquid/gel dyes.   Or the ones with less of a smell to them.

Alot of us are talking about Earth day, since the anniversary is Friday April 22.  Here are some simple easy things you can do to make our Earth a little more green.

• Recycle & cloth diaper.   Disposable diapers can last over 400 years!  YUCK!  Not to mention the chemicals they put into them & the cost in the long run! 
• Search out & replace { eventually } all your appliances with the Energy star labels!  Me & my husband are currently seeking out to do this in our house!  Just imagine what your bill would be like if you replaced all the appliances with items that dont suck the life out of your house
• Support your local farmers.  Another huge thing i plan to do this summer!  i have 2 local farmer markets i plan to visit often this year!
• Replace all your light bulbs with CFL bulbs.  They use 75% less electricity and last alot longer!
• Unplug un-needed appliances, cell phone cords, chargers, etc!  Even though your cell phone isnt charging the charger is still using energy! Make it easier, plug it into a power cord where a simple click of the switch to turn it off!
• BYOB!  Bring your own bags to shop!  Recycle those bags! And best thing?  some retailers pay you to BYOB!  PLUS who wouldnt want to tote around that adorable little bag with hearts or polka dots! 
• Teach ourselves and our littles to turn off the water when we are brushing our teeth.  Just 2 minutes of the water running waist 5 gallons of water PER day.  OH and fix that drip!!!
• Recycle your eletronics!  5.5 billion pounds are being dumped.  Result?  Chemicals & heavy metals being dumped on our grounds.  Go to rbrc.org and type in your zip code!
• Do full loads.  Wait till your dishes and laundry are full enough to do a full load!  If you do a little bit a a time your waisting water, energy and money.
• Go paperless billing!  If your already online might as well have your bills go paperless!  Get email reminders and sometimes your banks will have bill pay!
• Use eco friendly cleaning products.  There are some that you can get on sale at local retailers but there is also some that you can make at home with a little bit of baking soda, vinegar or ammonia

Book Likes :)

I don't know about all of you, but I am big on reading so I thought I'd make a little list of my latest must reads. 

1. The Twilight Series: 

This vamp series isn't for those people who are stuck on the old style, dark vamp, but is highly recomended if you are open to a newer, unconventional type of vamp.  In my opinion the books only get better as they go along, though for those who end up as Edward fans, book 2 can be a little slow.  Don't let it stop you from reading on though because the last book in the series (Breaking Dawn) will keep you on the edge 'til the very end.  I couldn't put it down until I was done!  This is one series I can read over and over again.  *contains some sexual content in later books* 

2.  The House of Night Series:

   

Agian with the non-traditional vamps. lol.  This series kept me on my toes and I couldn't wait to get to each consecuative book.  It does hint at and talk about (though not in explicit detail) some sexual content. 

3. The Harry Potter Series

I'm sure most of you with children with in the right age group have seen the Harry Potter movies.  Though I do like the movies, they lack a large part of the story and some of it's finer details which explain the story line in better detail. 

Don't let the fact that they were written as children's books fool you though.  I didn't start reading the series until I was about 17 years old or better and can honestly classify myself as a Harry Potter nerd (though I could say the same of the above mentioned series). 

My personal favs in the series are Prisoner of Azkaban and The Deathly Hallows as they seem to have held my attention with it's action and drama the best.  I did enjoy all of the books though and was impressed with how they seem to be written for a slightly older audience with each book, giving it the feeling that you the reader are growing right along with the characters.

Busy mom recipe!

We all know us moms can get busy and most times we get so worked up on doing our daily 'chores' of being a mom and wife.

Cleaning, laundry, errands and im pretty sure the list gooooooooooesss on for miles we tend to forget till the last minute about taking something out for dinner!

So im here for a small rescue and going to post one of my easiest Crock pot recipes ever.  And best part?  Doesnt need that many ingredients and during the day when your running errands and for a moment forget "what the heck am i going to do about dinner" you can simply remind yourself, its already cooking... stop and smile.   :P

Items you need...

• Boneless Ribs
• Crock pot
• BBQ sauce - pick your favorite one!  I usually go with something sweet
• Honey
• Brown sugar { UNLESS your bbq already has it in it } 

Prep:

Take your bbq sauce and put about a cup or 2 in a bowl and add some brown sugar and honey { I dont usually measure - i just judge } mix together.   Put your Ribs into the crock pot and top with Bbq sauce mixture.  

Cook on low for roughly 6-8 hours or until Ribs are tender.

Serve with a side of mash potatoes or bake potato.  Add a veggie and dinner rolls and wala.. YUMMY dinner no one could resist!   

You can always ad, change or mix up this recipe to create it to fit your family needs!

Spring = Allergies

With Spring comes allergy season.  Many of us are suffering from the ups and downs as mold and pollin counts sway from the endless highs and lows as mother natures struggles to make up her mind on whether or not to continue her affair with Jack Frost or finally let that hot flash that's been nudging her to take over. 

The truth is that for many of us the only thing we can do is keep taking our allergy meds and do everything in our power to avoid what triggers us, while trying not to let our allergies run our lives. 

In the process of dealing with my own allergy issues and hanging out with my SIL (sister-in-law) and neices, I discovered something new.  One of my 5-year-old neices suffers from astma and was recently placed on a new medication, Cymbacort (sp?), which really worked out well and has gotten her astma well under control.  My SIL later learned that the fact that the medication starting working so fast and well meant something that intrigued me... her astma was being triggered by allergies. 

This may not seem like such big news to some, but as I do not have a child with astma, I really had no idea that allergies could have such a huge affect on it.  Up until my neice was placed on the new medication she was having to use her inhailer a lot more frequently than I've ever seen her have to before.  I also tagged along to the ER at least twice in the past several months when her inhailer turned out to not be enough.  

My neice isn't the only one I've noticed suffering from the effects of allergy season though.  My own 3-yr-old son and 10 month old daughter have shown signs of sharing my allergy issues.  Both have a constant runny nose... you know the kind a kleenex won't work on.  You'd be better off just hanging a bucket under their nose to catch it as it drips if only you could figure out how to attatch it.  lol.  

So here's to hoping Mothr Nature soon evens out and allergy season cuts us all a break.  Don't let your allergies get the best of you.  Try to enjoy the warm sunny days with a trip to the park or a nice leisurly drive (assuming you can afford the gas), because all too soon the that permanant hot flash will kick in leaving us all sweating our behinds off and turning up the a/c in hopes of some relief.

Graco MyRide 65 Convertable Car Seat

I was ignorant when it came to choosing car seats for my older children.  I had no idea about expiration's on car seats or how some are better than others or that the recommendations for how long they should be rear facing and/or in a 5-point-harness are different from state law.  I've learned a lot since then and took great care in researching convertible car seats before I decided on the Graco MyRide 65 for my now 10 month old daughter, Tes.  It goes from rear facing to forward facing up to 65 lbs.     

The one review that caught my eye was from a couple that had two children (one rear facing - around 6 months old, and one forward facing - around 3 years old) in the MyRide 65 that had been in an accident in which both parents were injured.  They stated in the review that while they suffered moderate injuries, their two children were safe and sound and never even woke up when they crashed.  This was a big seller point for me.  I want to know my kids are safe. 

Installing the car seat was a bit of a pain, but most car seats are in my opinion.  This car seat is huge, but well worth it especially if you have a larger vehicle (I have a mini van and it fits perfectly behind the drivers side, middle seat).  My daughter is very comfortable and enjoys riding in it even if she doesn't like going into it initially ... lol.  It's two cup holders allow for me to place a bottle in one and snacks in the other with no problem... this is really nice when it comes to keeping her content throughout a day of running.  I have absolutely no regrets in spending the $150 some odd dollars on this seat.

Fisher-Price i-Glide Cradle 'n Swing

My first review is going to be on my sons swing.  When i was out shopping for baby items while i was pregnant i knew i wanted a few things.  When i had my girls i was always annoyed with how many batteries my girls swings ate up OR how loud the reeling of the dial was, so my first thing i wanted was a swing that i could plug in!

When i found this swing i knew it was the one.  Not only does it PLUG into the wall it also glides and swings.  You can move the seat to face or turn it to one side or another.  It has nice foot petals that you can easily tap to either stop, play music or speed up or down.  There is also music volume & lights to show you how high the speed is.  You snap the bottom of the swing in to glide or unsnap it to swing.

The fabric is also super soft where i even wanted to crawl into the swing and nap!  Also easily take out to wash anytime there is a spill or accident on it!

Anyways when we brought home the box and started to put it together at first it was difficult to figure out cause it was in several different pieces.  But the instructions was a major help and was actually pretty easy to read.

When my son was born and brought home from the hospital it was the first thing he was put into.  He slept amazing in it.  You could swaddle him and still strap him in.

One of my issues was getting the baby in and out without hitting the little mobile on top. { WHICH btw my son loves watching all the time - its a little mirror with butterflies } but after a few attempts we figured out you can pull up on it and swing it to the side[s]

Now that my son is older its harder to put him in there.  It does come unsnapped from the glide option easily from the base if he kicks or moves as he has gotten older, as a smaller baby/newborn it didnt do it as easily.  But one feature i love about it not only does it have lap belts but it has shoulder straps, so that i can leave my 6 month old wiggly boy in it and not have to worry about him popping out.

One thing i dont like is its bulky and not space friendly.  You cant snap it closed so you can store it away when you have a ton of company over.  The base is pretty large and hard to move.  But other then that its not too terrible.

If i had to start all over again this would be one of my first choices on swings.  It was a little pricier but if you put your coupons together just right at Babies r us on somewhere online you could come out pretty reasonable and just think about all the battery $ you'll be saving!
